Moving & a contest

Not much new knitting or bloging lately as I am moving. Check out the view from the roof of my new place. Right now all my yarn (well except the stuff in my knitting bag) is packed into boxes waiting to be moved. One thing this move has taught me is that I have less yarn than I thought...perhaps I shoudl go shopping...

Ok, here's a contest...

Name 5 places other than your house or a knitting store where you have knit...

Post your list on your blog & put a link to it in the comments of this entry. Whomever has the most original place as picked by my DB will get a little knitting gift packages from me. We'll pick a winner on Friday, April 21.

Here's my list..

1. DMV
2. During preliminary hearing at the SF Courts (the judge even stopped a trial to ask what I was making)
3. Waiting in line for a screening of Willy Wonka
4. The garden of a SF biker bar (the riend I was with was mortified I brought my knitting but when I took it out 3 girls around me were thrilled & pulled out theirs!)
5. My company marketing meetings

How long ago were you in Port Huron? Its a cool city. Some great stores! I really miss the Christmas store that was downtown. I think it was downtown? I normally just had north on and go to Birchwood Mall, Mary Maxiums, Jo-Ann Fabrics and the book stores. Ohhh! And I head to Port Austin, MI about once a year too. My families been going there for about 31 years.

Happy Easter!

I added my list to my blog. It was hard to limit it to just 5 since I knit everywhere I go. I never leave home without my needles and yarn. Thanks for a great contest.

The truly ironic thing about the # of sporting events I have knit at, is that I'm NOT a sports fan. I guess that's why I knit when I'm there *grins*

I added my list on my blog as well - what fun!

Well, this contest is near and dear to my heart. See, my blog is called "I Knit Around". I "knit around" in different interesting places, and my husband takes a picture for the blog.

This is also an ongoing challenge at my blog, as I have invited others to submit their own "Knitting Around" photos. If anyone reading this is interested in participating, you can find the details at:

http://www.folkcatart.com/knitaround/KAFAQ.html

There are no prizes planned at this time, only the fun of sharing interesting places where we have knit. Though I'm holding out the possibility of an annual set of "awards" for unusual entries.

You'll also find a full list of everyplace I've "Knit Around" on that web page, which is available full-time on my blog sidebar. If I had to pick, though, I'd say the highlights are:

1. On 11 Different Bridges in 140 Minutes
2. Riding on the sling of a trebuchet (a medieval siege weapon)
3. On the stage of a landmark vaudeville theater (the Wilton Town Hall Theatre)in front of an audience!
4. With the Budweiser Clydesdales.
5. In the kitchen of my favorite Chinese Restaurant.

I learned about your blog and contest through Unraveling (http://unraveling.typepad.com/unraveling/) today. I love your "chocolate" bunny! Is there a pattern?

Gabbi said...

Okay, here are my 5:

1) Under the hair dryer at the salon

2) On an airplane

3) In a bar on football day

4) On Muni

5) At work waiting for my computer to be fixed

Since I'm the only knitter in the world without a blog I'll post my response here:

1. While playing a highly competitive three round/three day trivial pursuit game. We still haven't determined the winner due to some cheating. Turned into my ribbed poncho
2. One scarf each for corresponding presidential debates. They were dubbed my "debates" scarves along with my "Academy Awards" scarf.
3. While drinking wine and watching multiple episodes of sex and the city. You shouldn't do this while knitting a complex lacey afghan pattern. With all that "distraction" on the screen about two feet had to be ripped out.
4. In the middle of multiple dinner parties and brunches.
5. Sneaking underneath my keyboard tray while at a client's waiting for very large files to "save". Such a waste of time if you don't break out your knitting!

My list is here http://tattooedyarn.blogspot.com/
and is this
1. I worked at Eternal Tattoos in Livonia Michigan for 4.5 years as a 'shop girl' - I knit while working there almost constantly - people used to be really freaked out when they walked in and saw someone knitting first off. It was very comforting to most people and they would relax right away. 2. I knit while sitting in the speed boat and watching to make sure if someone falls while water skiing (a spotter) - we are a big water skiing family. 3. I have knit at the movie theatre during a movie if it is not crowded and we are not near people where it would distract them. 4. I have knit while getting tattooed. 5. I have knit in traffic - I live in Chicago - there's a lot of traffic - stop for a while and knit then we go again and I put in in my lap and drive a bit.

this was fun Thanks!

Alas, too late to be in the contest. I always have a project in my car and in my bag in case I get stuck waiting at doctor, jury duty, whatever. But I will throw in five memorable places where I have boldly knit where no one has likely knit before:

1. Knitting a baby sweater in my unit while waiting for backup cops to help me serve a warrant on a dogfighting ring.

2. Pulling a cobweb lace shawl out of my backpack and hanging my feet over the edge after making a successful rockclimbing effort in Yosemite National Park in the summer of 1980. Whew!

3. Sitting on top of a Porta-Potty at a Grateful Dead show (hey, great view) at Red Rocks and working on the same shawl that same summer.

4. During album hour on the overnight shift at the radio station where I DJ'd in college. I got a LOT of stuff knitted then!

5. In the passenger seat of a supply truck when it wasn't my turn to drive on supply runs for Katrina animal rescue work. Kept me sane.
