Ah,the wedding shoe dilemma continues...(I'm going to rant a little about David's Bridal here). I had David's Bridal dye a pair of shoes for me for the wedding about a month and a half ago. When I went to get them the color looked right but when I took them out of the box the other side had large dark brown spots on it. Luckily I had taken them out of the box as they had repackaged them so the damaged side didn't show. They had another pair in my size though and sent those to be dyed for me. I went to pick those up two weeks later & they look white..it barely looks like they even dyed them. They all assure me that it is ivory but when I take them outside they are stark white so I take them back in & tell them they are too light (they looked much lighter than the first pair). The woman there tells me to go ahead take them home & compare them to my dress if they are too light it isn't a problem at al,l they can dye them darker & can do it in one day. She tells me not to worry & the last thing they want is for me to stress out. Perfect. I take the shoes to compare them to the dress & they look white against my ivory dress so once again I head out to David's. I have something with me the exact color of my dress so they can see the correct color. Well, the women there look at me like I'm crazy, "We can't re-dye those shoes. Who told you that?" They find the woman who told me that & suddenly her story is completely different, they can't re-dye light shoes a darker color because they might come out splotched (gee like my first pair). Fine I bite the bullet & say I'll buy a new pair & have them dyed the darker color...of course they are out of my size. The amount they couldn't care less was amazing. Matt suggested I try a half size smaller & they worked so I bought them. Now what about the 24 hours to get them dyed? Oh no, that will take 2 weeks! So, the shoes won't be ready until the Monday before the wedding. Now I'm all freaked out that they are going to mess them up again...never have I had such awful customer service in an industry where the customer definitely needs a little hand holding. I was going to send the Kenneth Cole's back but now they are my insurance policy against David's Bridal messing up again. As for the other shoes...anyone want to buy a pair of Bridal Ivory (almost white) size 9 shoes, never worn?
Ok, got that out of my system. Since the Clapotis is finally finished I've moved on to some other projects. Have you heard about the
Red Sweater Project? Many people I know have gone to see the exhibit & we decided it would be a good knit along for Chicks with Sticks. Basically they are knitting a red sweater for every soldier killed in Iraq. As of yesterday they needed 288 more sweaters though the number changed every day. Here is my first sweater.

These whip up really quickly & you can get about 7 out of a ball of Red Heart. If you are interested in helping the pattern and all the information is on their
site.
I also started on some gift items like these wrist warmers from Last Minute Knitted Gifts.

I'm using Crystal Palace Bunny Hop which is super soft. The twisted rib & fun to knit & I think I can do one of these a night!

ReplyDeleteThey screw up (twice) and make you buy new shoes?!... I'd so "no dang way!"... They broke them, they FIX them... As to the woman "telling stories", is she new!? I'd be demanding they get my size rushed in from another other bridal shop from anywhere in North America. I hear UPS delivers... Sorry. I just don't buy their arguments... I'm totally on your side! People are so bloody lazy and no one assumes any responsibility. Drives me mental...
ReplyDeleteGive them my number........ggrrrrrrrrrrr
By the way, on a lighter note, your wrist wamers look very nice! Reminds me to finish the ones I started in the Spring...
VERY poor customer service...you have every right to be upset!
ReplyDelete(((hugs)))
Unfortunately, I think a lot of bridal places get away with this kind of stuff because they aren't the kind of places where a lot of repeat business is expected. It's no excuse for what happened to you. If all else fails, I think that JC Penney has a good selection of dyeable shoes for weddings. I got mine at a factory outlet, so I can't help you there. If all else fails, consider wearing colored shoes that make you happy -- how about a color that's bright and happy or that matches something else at the wedding? In any case, I hope that it all works out for you.
ReplyDeleteI agree -- they should have had them shipped in from another location. It's not like David's isn't a chain. I can think of two off the top of my head w/in 45 minutes of here.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the wristwarmers! That pattern is one of the reasons I bought the book. I need to learn the "two socks on two circulars" method, though, b/c I ALWAYS lose track of my rows on one wristwarmer and end up with one longer than the other! ;->
Me, I got my wedding shoes for $10 at Payless Shoe Source.
