Busy three day weekend

Well we made the most of the past three day weekend. It was Knit Out at the Mall of America. I volunteered on Saturday & spent a fun couple of hours teaching people to knit.
Knit Out
I wasn't sure what to think of the event as a whole. Maybe because I'm comparing it to Stitches or even TNNA. The only yarn companies there were Lion Brand, Bernet & Red Heart. There was a Clover booth, which was giving away lighted needles for a donation (I guess that's not really giving away). Interweave had a booth & so did Knit 'n Style. Other than that I saw a few publishers, a pom pom maker & the Knitting Guild. It didn't appear anyone was selling anything just promo really. But it was really impossible to get to the booths because people were lined up around the mall to get the free bags the booths were giving away (I heard people waited 45 minutes for each one). I'm not sure what was in the bags though someone said a ball of yarn & a few patterns. There were a couple fashion shows & demos throughout the weekend too, including some by Vicky Howell & Nicky Epstein. There seemed to be a ton of people there for the event (last year they said there were 50,000) but I'm not sure I'd go again if I wasn't teaching.

The rest of the weekend was spent on remodeling Matt's office. We needed a couple of days when he didn't have to work to get it done. The walls were in really sad shape with lots of old holes & anchors in them.
Those poor banged up walls
All the holes had to be replastered & sanded. Matt chose a granite color for the walls & we repainted all the white trim.
#48 - Office Remodel
We bought more bookshelves from Ikea to line one wall to give it a bit of a library feel.
Office Remodel - Day 3
All the books & such still need to go back in but that's an evenings work. We also finally hung the mirror planned for that room & we got some curtains at Ikea too that Matt though had a fun space age pattern.
Office Remodel - Day 3
I shortened the tabs on the curtains since this picture & I still need to hem them today. Finally we just need to buy some artwork for over the desk. Matt wants something with a robot & I think we'll look for some good bright colors.

  2. I so much love to see the progress on your house! Doesn’t it feel so good to get things done one after the other and getting to a more cozy home with every day? Starting to read your post I wasn't sure about the grey colour but with the couch and the curtains it looks really good!

  4. Have you maybe thought about some wall graphics? I got some for my best friend (he lives in an apartment and so he unfortunately can't paint) and they're so much fun! The robot comment brought them to mind. There's some over at www.whatisblik.com and etsy (I got mine from a seller there. They're kinda fun and add color. Blik actually has some robot ones too ; )
