This week we didn't have to call in any professionals!
Our mattress arrived so we are now able to sleep in the upstairs Master Suite.
The bed is an upholstered platform bed from IKEA. The cover for it only came in white. I plan to dye it brown or beige but need to practice on some scrap fabric first. The nightstands & lamps are also IKEA. I love the new bedding. The quilt is by Woolrich and non-down all season. The sheets are from Target & made from bamboo, they are so incredibly soft (I think I'll get another set for the guest room). I wish the color showed better in this picture as the color is a little more seafoam than light blue. The blue throw pillow is silk & also from Target. I made the tan pillow & did the embroidery on it.
Strangely the upstairs in the house is completely white, I say its strange because every room downstairs is so brightly painted. I'm torn between painting the bedroom a very soft silvery blue or leaving it white, any thoughts?
I finished painting the living room yesterday!
Before
After
We used Benjamin Moore historical colors. The walls are Nantucket Gray and the fireplace is Sussex Green. I think they look so rich & go so well with the tiles at the foot of the fireplace.
Dealing with the molding has not been easy. Over the years they have gotten really covered in paint at the edges.
I really hated how it looked. The white really stood out & just made our paint job look messy. I tried doing a little scrapping with a putty knife but that didn't work. The other thought was to take down all the molding, clean it up & re-stain it. I'm just really not up for that with every other room needing painting too. What I ended up doing was going to Micheal's & buying some acrylic paint in a matching brown & a very small brush. I watered the paint down a little & then carefully painted around the edge of all the molding. The results are amazing, you don;t see the paint on the molding any more & it looks like we have clean lines. It was really worth the couple of hours it took me.
We took the sconces down from over the fireplace while we painted and are going to take them to be rewired.
They are original to the house & marked 1930 on the back.
We found them online and they appear to be worth a couple hundred dollars for the set. We'll take them to a place the electrician recommend this weekend to get wired & maybe cleaned up a little. Now we are searching for a ceiling light to go with them to replace the 70's ceiling fixture in the room. We found the companion chandelier on ebay but it had already sold.
Next week on to the nasty yellow bathroom, wish me luck!
Lookin' good!!! The living room looks much warmer and those sconces with be wonderful. What a treasure those are.
